I've always been interested in aromatherapy and all that kinda stuff. I have a great love and fascination for anything to do with natural healing and miracle natural medicine!You see, I'm one of these great believers in the powers of "mother earth", I will start off with an introduction to aromatherapy....Aromatherapy is a natural therapy that uses Essential Oils extracted from the bark, leaves, blossoms and roots of plants, herbs and flowers.Essential Oils are extracted from various parts of the plant, usually by distillation or pressing. These extracts are essential in the sense that they are very concentrated and 100% pure.To produce even the smallest amount of essential oil, a range of different picking and growing conditions apply to each plant that produces these precious oils. Consisting of many different chenicals manufactured by nature, the effect these sometimes potent chenicals have on the human body and mind, can be both subtle and complex.Different essential oils can evoke different responses.Essential oils are powerful, the perfume industry has known for centuries. You can learn how to make your own scent with natures pure essential oilsBASIL: Eases mental fatigue, headache, stress, stimulates memory, for digestion, depression.BERGAMOT:Very refreshing and great for nervous and depressed emotions, antiseptic.BIRCH: Astringent, for sore and stiff muscles and joint pain, arthritis and rheumatism, and tendonitis.CEDARWOOD: A very calming oil, for oily skin, respiratory problems.CLARY SAGE: Relief for PMS. An essential oil blend can be created for therapeutic effects, the beauty of a fragrance-or both. A synergistic effect is possible when the essential oils work together harmoniously. You do not need to be an expert in the use of essential oils to create blends.Below I've outlined some basic information that may be useful to you as you journey into the creativity of blending.....When Creating A Blend You Will Want To Consider:The purpose of the blend.The desired therapeutic effect and/orthe type of fragrance desired.The concepts of a balanced blend.You Will Want To Familiarize Yourself With The Fragrance And Effect Of Essential Oils.Breathe the aroma and- breathe the aroma and note how it makes you feel-calm?, uplifted?,focused?,sensual?,other.To Test The Aroma An Individual Essential Oil You Can- breathe directly from the bottle-swirl theessential oil in the bottle to stir up the molecules first or place a drop on an unscented tissue, blotter paper or other porous type paper and breathe. You may exprience overload if you are testing the aroma of different essential oils. You will no longer be able to smell them!.This is common.You can restore your sense of smell by smelling coffee beans,or your arm-pit!!!!-it's true!!!There is no limit on how many essential oils you can use in your blend.Many blends for therapeutic effect only contain about three to four essential oils-yet Shalimar contains 13 and Aramis contains 14!Essential oils blend harmoniously with essential oils in the same family:LABIATAE: basil,clary asge,lavender,marjoram,peppermint,rosemary.RUTACEA: bergamot,lemon,orange.CONIFERAE: cedarwood,juniper.Essential oils have different rates of volatility and evaporation and perfumiers have placed essential oils into these categories:TOP NOTE: fresh,light,fast evaporation-first scent you are aware of in a blend.MIDDLE NOTE: evaporates slower-it is considered the body of the fragrance.BASE NOTE: the fragrance is rich, emerges slowly and lingers.You can balance the fragrance of your blend by including top, middle and base notes.You may want to use essential oils with a strong fragrance sparingly-such as peppermint or basil. Carrier Oils For an essential oil to be used on the skin, it will almost always have to be diluted in a carrier oil. So, for a ..... Relaxing massage: 7 drops lavender, 4 drops each rose & mimosa in 60ml (12 tsps) sunflower oil. Energising massage:6 drops bergamot, 5 drops peppermint and 2 drops of lemon in 60ml (12 tsps) sweet almond oil. Warming winter rub: 6 drops frankincense, 5 drops eucalyptus and 4 drops pine in 60ml (12 tsps) sunflower oil. Invigorating summer rub: 6 drops orange, 5 drops lemongrass and 4 drops rosemary in 60ml (12tsps) sweet almond oil. For backache: 6 drops each lavender and eucalyptus and 3 drops lemon in 60ml (12 tsps) safflower oil.
